Troubleshooting and Features
Q11: I just upgraded to the newest version of Bibble, and every time I start Bibble, I get a warning message stating: "One or more plug-ins are out of date and have not been loaded." What's wrong?
A: One of the Bibble plug-ins you have installed isn't compatible with the latest version of Bibble. Please check to see if there are updated versions available for the plug-ins you have installed.
Q12: When I start Bibble, it opens multiple copies of the same tool panel. How do I get rid of the copies?
A: You may have been hiding toolbars instead of closing them. To remove a tool from your screen, click the menu icon

and select "Remove Tool".If you want to reset all the tools and windows to the original configuration, you can run the Setup Wizard from Help->Setup Wizard.
Q13: I can't see the folder browser or thumbnails any more. How can I control what panels are visible?
A: There are 5 panels that can be shown or hidden. These panels are: Folder View, Thumbnail View, Image Preview, Quick Controls, and Shooting Info Panel. Each can be toggled on and off with the icons in the View Toolbar. Find more information on this in our on-line manual sections on
Panels,
Layouts, and
toolbars.
Q14: I have an older PC, will Bibble run on it?
A: While Bibble's hardware requirements (in detail
here) are less restrictive than many RAW converters and workflow applications, we do require the "SSE Instruction Set" and AMD. These exist in practically all processors made after 1999.
Q15: Is there a Universal Binary for my Mac?
A: The latest version of Bibble, 4.8, is packaged as a Universal Binary.
Q16: Why don't you support my camera's RAW format?
A: Bibble is typically the first independent RAW converter to add support for new cameras from the major camera makers, but there are some cameras that we do not support today. More cameras are being added all the time, but since each camera maker (and many times each
camera) uses a separate RAW format, adding new cameras takes time and effort. As such we strive to support the most popular cameras; today we support over 100 RAW cameras.
Q17: How do I print a picture or several pictures?
A: Printing in Bibble uses Print Queues. This allows you to select all the pictures you want to print in various sizes, and send them to Bibble's Print Queue. The Print Queue is where you setup the print size, printer profile (.icc or .icm file) quantity per page and other settings. You can add images to the current Print Queue (last queue used or edited) by selecting one or more images and pressing "CTRL-P", by pressing the Print tool icon

or by dragging selected images onto a Print Queue in the Folder View Panel.
Printing will begin as soon as images are added to queues that print a single image on a page. By default, this is only the 8x10 inch print queue. The others are setup to wait to print until you're ready - allowing you to select images from many folders or Work Queues before printing Contact Sheets. You can change this behavior by selecting right-clicking on a Print Queue and selecting"Show".
Q18: What exactly does Perfectly Clear do?
A: One-Click Optimization with Perfectly Clear - powered by
Athentech - is an easy, yet powerful tool to adaptively adjust contrast, color, exposure, and sharpness to yield excellent results with minimal effort. You can read more about this tool
here.
Q19: Noise Ninja is great - how do I get the most out of it?
A: Bibble includes Noise Ninja technology to offer digital noise suppression within the RAW workflow. A set of basic noise controls are included standard with Bibble, and more advanced controls are available to Bibble Pro users that have a Noise Ninja license (available from
Picture Code).
Q20: I want to learn more about Noise Ninja Profiles. Why are Bibble profiles different from those from Picture Code?
A: Noise Profiles are statistical descriptions of the noise patterns that is typical of each camera at a given ISO sensitivity. Bibble includes profiles for many cameras at all ISO settings supported by the camera, and Bibble will auto-select the proper profile when the Noise Ninja tool is enabled. You don't need to create profiles for cameras that Bibble already has profiles for.
Bibble Noise Profiles and Picture Code noise profiles are in different formats and are not compatible. This is because Bibble operates on linear, RAW data, while Picture Code operates on pre-converted images. For this reason, you cannot use profiles created for one application in the other.
Q21: How do I create a new Noise Ninja Profile?
A: There is a "Profile" tab on the Noise Ninja Registered tool panel that contains a "Generate" button. We used that button to generate the profiles that come with Bibble. You don't really need to worry about generating profiles if there are pregenerated profiles for your camera model.
If you would like to create your own profiles from a image that shows noise, select the image, and press Generate on the Profile tab of the Registered Noise Ninja tool. Provide a filename for this profile, and press Process Image to create the profile. If you took a picture of the noise chart (available from Picture Code), then press Process Chart instead of Process Image.
Q22: How do I activate the advanced Noise Ninja features?
A: A key set of Noise Ninja tools are provided to all Bibble users. However, Bibble Pro users with Noise Ninja installed and registered will automatically gain access to the advanced tools. You can also activate the advanced Noise Ninja controls on Bibble Pro by entering your Noise Ninja license information into Bibble by using the Help->Noise Ninja Registration tool. Any active Noise Ninja license will unlock the advanced controls in Bibble.
Q23: Can Bibble 4 read .tif or .tiff files?
A: Currently, Bibble does not support reading TIFF files. Bibble does support writing both 8 and 16 bpp TIFF.
Q24: Why do I get strange behavior when I adjust the temperature and/or tint sliders for my JPEG images?
A: Custom temp/tint doesn't work on some JPEGs, but setting an adjusted White Balance with "Click White Cursor" (hot-key "I") will produce accurate results.
Q25: When I convert some images, the highlights sometimes take on colors. Why is this?
A: Bibble includes advanced highlight recovery algorithms that attempt to recover both luminance and color information in blown highlights. In most cases this produces superior results, but in some instances while recovering color information produces unusual colors. In these instances, you can disable Highlight Recovery to reduce the unusual color cast, or experiment with the threshold control on the advanced HR panel to find a better set of values for your camera and subject. Once you find an optimal HR threshold level, you can save that setting as your default value, so you do not need to manually adjust that setting with each new image.
Q26: The preview images in Bibble look great and are sharp, but when I view the coverted JPEG files, they are soft and blurry. What's causing this?
A: This is usually caused by the image viewer outside Bibble. If you view a large image in Windows Image Viewer or other applications, they usually shrink the image to fit your screen. There are many short-cuts that these applications can take to make image viewing faster, and those can affect apparent sharpness. Try zooming to 100% in the viewer to see the actual image quality.
Also blurriness can be caused by lowering the default JPEG Quality setting (Preferences->Output). Try increasing the Quality setting if you are seeing blurry JPEG output files.
If these steps still don't sharpen up your images, make sure your Batch Queue output setting "Force processing size/quality" is set to "Full size", like shown below:
Q27: When I convert the same RAW file in Bibble and another application, I get different color results. Why?
A: Color is treated differently in each application, so you will get different results from different applications. Each RAW format that Bibble supports from every camera has been tested by Bibble staff to ensure the most accurate color possible.
Q28: When I use the Lens Correction tool, it sometimes auto-selects the wrong lens. How can I fix this?
A: Camera makers usually do not include in the RAW or JPEG file an exact description of the lens used. Bibble needs to "guess" the lens from what information is provided. But, you can increase the chance of a good guess by removing cameras and lenses that you don't own from the lens database provided with the plugin.
Before you get started, be sure to make a backup of the camera and lens database - this way you can add lenses back to the database after you get that new birthday present! You can find the camera and lens databases at:
For Windows:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bibble Labs\BibblePro\supportfiles\libs\LensProfiles
or
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bibble Labs\BibbleLite\supportfiles\libs\LensProfiles
For Mac:
/Library/Application Support/Bibble Labs/BibblePro/supportfiles/libs/LensProfiles
or
/Library/Application Support/Bibble Labs/BibbleLite/supportfiles/libs/LensProfiles
For Linux:
/usr/lib/bibblelabs/bibblepro/libs/LensProfiles
or
/usr/lib/bibblelabs/bibblelite/libs/LensProfiles
You need to add a line containing “skip: true” to the lens database files for the lens that you do not own, or to the specific lens that Bibble is incorrectly guessing. This will cause Bibble to skip these lenses and never offer these as guessed lenses.
Or, you can remove the files containing cameras and lenses from other manufacturers. Then, edit the files of you camera and lens makers and remove cameras and lenses you don't own.
Camera sections look like this:

menu_make: Nikon SLR
menu_model: D200
exif_make: NIKON CORPORATION
exif_model: NIKON D200

end
Make sure you add the “skip: true” line between the “begin lens” and “end” lines for lenses that you do not want Bibble to suggest.
If something goes wrong, and you remove lenses you need, you can re-install the Lens Correction plugin to return the lens database to its complete form.
Q29: The Bibble Plug-in for Photoshop CS2 does not seem to work. How can I get this to work?
A: Bibble's Photoshop plugin works with all versions of Photoshop later that version 7, and Photoshop Elements later that version 2. To enable the plugin, copy the “Bibble Raw.8bi” or “BibbleRaw” file from your Bibble program folder to your Photoshop Plug-in folder. These are usually found at:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\Bibble Labs\Bibble Raw.8bi
and
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats
or for Photoshop 7
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Plug-Ins\File Formats
or for Photoshop Elements:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 4.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
Mac:
/Applications/Bibble Labs/BibbleRaw
and
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats
or for Photoshop Elements:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 4.0/Plug-Ins/File Formats
Other Plug-ins may also support some RAW file formats, and may continue to load RAW files from Photoshop until you remove those. You can continue to use Adobe Camera RAW from within Bridge by right-clicking (or control+click on Macs) a RAW thumbnail and selecting “Open in Camera RAW...”.
If you still have issues running Bibble, ensure that Bibble's memory requirements are met when Photoshop is running. If necessary, lower Photoshop's Memory consumption through Preferences -> Memory & Image Cache so that the Total minus the amount Photoshop will consume is 512MB or more.
Q30: Shooting with my camera tethered to my computer seems very slow. What could be causing this?
A: Shooting tethered can be slow when using a non-powered USB port, like those found on many notebook computers. Try switching to a different, powered USB port to improve your image capture speed.
